Work of Man Work of Nature is about the creative symbiosis of nature's work with man's work. These stone and bronze lion's head mooring rings are outside Lambeth Palace on the edge of the river Thames on the Victoria Embankment opposite the Houses of Parliament, London. Rain has formed a natural river of tears down the face of the lion and lichen is changing the colour of the stone. Acid rain and pollution have etched the surface with multiple patinas and colours. The power of nature here at work, the symbolic piece made by man to glorify man is embellished by nature's work regardless.
It is said that if the lions drink the Thames water, London will flood. Until recent years, it was exceptionally rare to see the Thames water high enough to touch the lions' heads. Water regularly now laps at them...
